PATRICK DEAREN
YA HOO! Celebrating its 10th Anniversary, the Big Bear Cowboy Gathering is proud to announce our featured children’s book, The Hidden Treasure of the Chisos, by Patrick Dearen.
On four consecutive Wednesdays beginning June 24 and ending July 15, we will be reading The Hidden Treasure of the Chisos and coordinating fun-filled, activities. Guest readers are well-known stage performers, Beth Gardner and Steve Cassling. Activities will include crafts such as friendship bracelets and leather stamping. The children will be experiencing cowboy life with sarsaparilla tasting and playing exciting group games. On July 8 we will have a live horse for the children to get to know. As an added bonus, participants attending all four Wednesdays will receive a free, personally autographed copy of the Hidden Treasure of the Chisos. Additional books will be available for sale.
Meet the author! We are thrilled that through the sponsorship of the Friends of the Library, the author, Patrick Dearen, will be meeting with the children on July 15 to read the final chapters, autograph books, and answer questions.
The Hidden Treasure of the Chisos is a mystery filled with adventure and involving an unlikely friendship. Legend has it that there’s a lost gold mine in the Chisos Mountains. Two cousins discovering a dying Indian in the desert learn the secrets of the Mountain and begin the search for the mine on a trail filled with dangers and intrigue.
